SeaQualizer Descending Device – Give Released Fish a Second Chance

The SeaQualizer is a precision-engineered, pressure-activated release tool designed to combat the harmful effects of barotrauma in deep-water fish. Barotrauma occurs when a fish is brought to the surface too quickly, causing the gas in its swim bladder to expand due to rapid pressure change. This expansion can lead to visible and damaging symptoms, including:

  • Floating helplessly at the surface
  • Stomachs protruding from the mouth
  • Bulging eyes
  • Inflated body cavities
  • Flared gills

Left untreated, these symptoms significantly reduce the fish’s chance of survival after release.

The SeaQualizer helps reverse these effects by safely returning fish to depth, where natural water pressure recompresses their swim bladder and restores neutral buoyancy — allowing them to swim away on their own.

How It Works:

  • Attach the SeaQualizer to a fishing rod or retrieval line.
  • Secure the fish to the device using a lip grip.
  • Lower the fish back into the water and free spool to the preset depth.
  • Recover your SeaQualizer.

The device automatically releases the fish at a preset depth.

Each SeaQualizer model includes three selectable release depths:

Shallow Water SeaQualizer - 30 ft • 50 ft • 70 ft

Standard SeaQualizer - 50 ft • 100 ft • 150 ft

Deep Water SeaQualizer - 100 ft • 200 ft • 300 ft

Whether you're a recreational angler or a professional guide, the SeaQualizer makes ethical, sustainable catch-and-release easy and effective. Help protect the fishery — one release at a time.

It depends on the size of the fish. A good rule of thumb is 1 lb of weight for every 5 lbs of fish.
Each SeaQualizer has three selectable depth settings. Turn the plug until the split ring aligns with the screw head, push to your desired depth marker, then turn back to lock.
A descending device returns fish suffering from barotrauma safely back to depth so they can recompress and survive.
The SeaQualizer is pressure-activated and automatically releases the fish at depth — no guesswork, no yanking.
No. It attaches externally and releases cleanly without puncturing or hooking the fish.
Depending on the model, between 30 and 300 feet.
Most agencies recommend descending over venting. Venting requires skill and can cause organ damage if done incorrectly.
Yes. Legal and encouraged in many regions. Some fisheries now require a descending device on board.
Absolutely. Fully reusable, corrosion-resistant, and designed for repeated saltwater use. Rinse with fresh water after each trip.
